An Iran-linked hacking group has claimed responsibility for breaching the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel, releasing private emails, photographs, and documents online. The cyberattack adds to rising digital tensions between Iran and the United States during the wider regional conflict.
Iran-Linked Hackers Claim Breach
The group known as Handala Hack Team announced that it had successfully accessed Kash Patel’s personal email account. In a statement, the group said Patel had joined its list of successfully hacked targets.
The hackers published documents and personal images online as proof of the breach.
Personal Emails and Photos Released
According to reports, some of the leaked material includes travel correspondence, business-related emails, and personal photographs from Patel’s private account.
Among the released images were photos showing Patel beside a vintage sports car, holding a cigar, and posing in front of a mirror with a bottle of rum.
U.S. Officials Yet to Respond
The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have not officially commented on the reported breach. Security sources cited in media reports confirmed that investigators are reviewing the incident.
Some of the leaked documents are said to be more than a decade old.
Cyberattack Linked to Wider Conflict
The Handala Hack Team describes itself as a pro-Palestinian cyber group. Western cybersecurity researchers have linked the group to Iranian cyberintelligence networks.
The hackers said the breach was part of retaliation for recent U.S.-Israeli military actions in Iran.
Growing Cyber Pressure on Western Targets
The same group recently claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on medical device company Stryker. Analysts say Iran-linked cyber operations may increase as regional military tensions continue.
Cybersecurity experts warn that digital attacks are becoming a major front in the wider conflict.
